Description

ALS signed “Wm. H. Taft,” one page, 5.5 x 9, War Department letterhead, July 14, 1904. Handwritten letter to Alexander C. Sands, Jr. in Ohio, in full: I have written Cortelyou as you request." In fine condition, with light offsetting to the text from premature folding. Taft served as Secretary of War under Theodore Roosevelt from 1904 to 1908; George B. Cortelyou served variously as Secretary of Commerce and Labor, Postmaster General, and Secretary of the Treasury in Roosevelt's administration. Accompanied by the original mailing envelope, addressed in Taft's hand. Also includes a high-quality matte-finish portrait.
