Description

Union general (1834-1903) who played a prominent role in the siege of Petersburg and the Appomattox Campaign. After the war he served as a member of the commission which tried the Lincoln Conspirators. Excellent 2.25 x 4 carte-de-visite bust portrait of Foster in uniform, signed on the reverse in black ink, "Yours truly, R. S. Foster, Bvt. Maj. Genl, Comdg Div. 24th A. C." Published by Brady's National Photographic Portrait Galleries of Washington. In fine condition.
