Emperor of Russia, King of Poland, and Grand Duke of Finland (born 1845) who reigned from March 13, 1881 until his death on November 1, 1894. During Alexander's reign Russia fought no major wars, and he was therefore styled 'The Peacemaker.' Uncommon original 4.5 x 6.5 cabinet portrait of Alexander III seated with several of his children shortly before his death. Among those pictured are Grand Duchesses Xenia and Olga, Grand Dukes Michael and George, and a young Nicholas II of Russia. In very good to fine condition, with light scuffing and foxing, and areas of surface loss to the top of the image.
