Massachusetts lawyer (1731-1814) who served as one of the prosecutors of British soldiers during the Boston Massacre trial; he later signed the Declaration of Independence. Partly-printed DS, signed twice, “Rob't Paine his att'y,” three pages two sheets, 9 x 12.5, February 24, 1794. Document commanding the sheriff of Suffolk County to bring Stephen Fales of Boston before the court to respond to a complaint made by William Clapp, endorsed twice on the reverse by Paine as Fales's defense attorney. In very good condition, with some paper loss, and toning and splitting along the fragile intersecting folds.
