Description

Dubuffet asks for proof of "using my name as your son's first name, which is really something"

French painter and sculptor (1901-1985) known for founding the 'Art Brut' movement. TLS in French, one page, 8.25 x 10.75, personal letterhead, August 31, 1976. Letter to Madame Terry Siniscalchi, in part (translated): "I feel very flattered knowing that you're interested in my works, but the way you show this interest—using my name as your son's first name, which is really something—surprises me. I want you to know that I am so surprised—it is hard for me to believe that the American Civil Court Services had really registered the birth of your son with that funny first name. I hope it could be possible for me to obtain from the official administration a document certifying such fact…I'd be glad if you could give me some information about you, your personality and occupation. I think you understand how curious I feel about someone who is so interested in my works that she used my name as her son's." In fine condition.
