Description

Extraordinarily rare find a full ticket and program for the Jimi Hendrix Experience with Janis Joplin

Original 1968 concert program for the infamous New York Rock Festival held at the Singer Bowl in Flushing Meadows, New York, with The Doors and The Who performing on August the 2nd, The Jimi Hendrix Experience, The Chambers Brothers, the Soft Machine and special guests Big Brother and the Holding Company featuring Janis Joplin on the 23rd and The Young Rascals and The Vagrants (Leslie West) closing the festival of the 30th. The sixteen page program measures 9" X 12" and contains detailed information about the artists performing at this legendary New York City festival, with some notable full page photos and ads for Jimi and the Experience and Jim and The Doors. The program itself is in fine condition.

The program itself is rare, especially in the condition it's in. The real find here however is the unused full ticket for the Jimi Hendrix Experience and Janis concert on the 23rd. It measures 2.25" X 1.5" with text which in part reads: The New York Rock Festival Jimi Hendrix Experience At the Singer Bowl Flushing Meadow Park and the ticket is in Near Mint condition.

Billboard Magazine's Fred Kirby who the Jimi concert wrote in part: 'The Jimi Hendrix Experience gave one of its finest local performances to date to complete a strong program. From the opening of 'Are You Experienced?' every number hit the mark. An unusual aspect of the set was the singing along by members of the audience, at first it was only slight, but by the time they performed 'Purple Haze' it was widespread. Hendrix, one of the top echelon of today's pop guitarists, stole the show. The vastness of the Singer Bowl (which Jimi drew over 18,000 people) seemed congenial to the trio's highly amplified sound. Whether erect or on the floor, calm or physically assaulting the amplifiers, his playing was outstanding. And Hendrix, who has jammed with many other groups, clearly relishes playing, especially as well as he played on August 23rd.'
