Original Civil War-era sketch for Harper’s Weekly, accomplished in graphite on an off-white 11 x 6.75 sheet, which is annotated in the lower left corner, “Signal Quarters, Lieut. Niles in Command, 8 miles from Newbern,” and on the reverse: “By [Angelo] Wiser, Burnside Expedition.” The sketch shows the quarters and surrounding land of a Lieut. Niles, ostensibly Lt. P. H. Niles, a Signal Corps officer. In fine condition, with intersecting folds.
