Description

Cold War-dated original fabric United States Air Force blood chit, 9.5 x 15.5, issued as No. 32190R for the USSR and its satellite countries, marked “Restricted” in the upper and lower borders, with large American flag to top and the balance of notice featuring a help message in 14 different languages: Arabic, German, French, Polish, Czech, Slovak, English, Greek, Bulgarian, Russian, Lithuanian, Hungarian, Turkish, and Romanian. The English caption: “I am an American and do not speak your language. I need food, shelter and assistance. I will not harm you; I bear no malice toward your people. If you help me, my government will reward you.” Lithographed by S. F. Apr. 1951, and published by the Aeronautical Chart and Information Service. In fine condition. Also known as an escape and identification flag, a blood chit is a notice that is carried by the military, usually aircraft personnel, that displays messages aimed at civilians, which asks them to help the service member in the event they are shot down.
