Description

Union general (1831-1869) who served as Grant's aide-de-camp and later as a brigadier general. A close friend and confidant of Grant, Rawlins was appointed secretary of war at the start of his presidency. Desirable 2.5 x 4 carte-de-visite photo of Rawlins during the Civil War, signed below the image in ink, "Yours truly, Jno. A. Rawlins, Brig. Genl." Reverse has the backmark of "Barr & Young, Army Photographers, Fort Pickering, Memphis, Tennessee." In fine condition.
