ALS signed “Dan'l Webster,” three pages on two adjoining sheets, 3.5 x 5.5, October 20, 1851. Letter to Frederick Hobbs of Bangor, Maine, in full: "I had the pleasure of receiving a Basket of delicious grapes from you, early this month, for which please accept the hearty thanks of Mrs. Webster & myself. I am happy to say that my health is very much restored. My calorist left me about the tenth of this month, & I have now only to complain of some reduction of health & strength." Includes the original hand-addressed mailing envelope, which is franked in the upper right corner, "Dan'l Webster"; the bold portion, "Marshfield, Ma. Oct 20th, free," likely done in the hand of a post office attendant. In fine condition.
