Clark McAdams Clifford (1906-1998) was a successful Washington lawyer who served as an important political adviser to Democratic presidents Harry S. Truman, John F. Kennedy, Lyndon B. Johnson, and Jimmy Carter. He served as an officer in the U.S. Navy and in 1945 was assigned to the White House, where he was quickly promoted to captain while serving as assistant naval aide and then naval aide to President Harry S Truman. He became a trusted personal adviser and friend of Truman.
