Description

Spontaneous Beatnik prose-poem on Steve Allen: "Who would ever expect a big television star to be a wino except Steve"

Unsigned handwritten notes in pencil written by Jack Kerouac on both sides of a 3.5 x 5.5 notebook page, in part: "Steve Allen has a red nose like a wino but who would ever expect a big television star to be a wino except Steve suddenly as we go driving down H'wood sts. so he can visit his ma a second & we can discuss my routine on the show he says 'Oh yes, my favorite drink is port—in fact, Swiss colony port' which utterly annoys me because I've been a wino for years starting from 21." In fine condition.

In 1959, Jack Kerouac produced a record album of spoken word poetry, Poetry for the Beat Generation, which featured Steve Allen playing jazz piano in the background; he also appeared on The Steve Allen Show in 1959, where he read a passage from Visions of Cody.
