Description

AQS on an off-white 6.75 x 4 sheet, signed at the conclusion, "Henry W. Longfellow, Nov. 30, 1859." Longfellow pens the first stanza of his poem 'Excelsior,' in full: "The shades of night were falling fast / As through an Alpine village passed, / A youth who bore, 'mid snow and ice, A banner with the strange device / Excelsior!" Nicely double-matted and framed with an engraved portrait to an overall size of 12.5 x 18.75. In fine condition, with light intersecting folds.
