LS in French, signed “Alfonso de Borbon y Borbon,” one page, 10 x 14.25, January 16, 1875. Official letter of state to "His Royal Highness the Grand Duke of Mecklenburg-Schwerin," announcing his ascension to king. In part (translated): "The Spanish Monarchy having been restored to acclamation and with the assent of the peoples, and having been called to govern it as a result of the legitimate heritage and the abdication of my very dear mother Queen Isabella II. We hasten to inform Your Royal Highness of our advent to the Crown." In very good to fine condition, with creasing to the right edge, and old tape repairs to the backs of fold splits and short edge tears.
