Superb 1862 postally-used mailing cover, 5.25 x 3, featuring a pair of American flags surmounted by a portrait of the beardless Lincoln, with the famous inscription: "The Union, it must and shall be preserved." Postmarked at Walpole, February 2nd, and addressed to a Union soldier: "Francis A. Tisdale, Co. K., 44 Regt., Mass. V. M., (Col. Lee), Newbern, N.C.". In very good condition, with creasing, light soiling, and staining.
