Description

One of two NAA world record certificates for Apollo 11's lunar liftoff, from the personal space collection of Buzz Aldrin

Extremely rare certificate of record from the National Aeronautic Association, one page, 12 x 15, presented to "Neil A. Armstrong & Edwin E. Aldrin, Jr., for Class K-3, Greatest Mass Lifted into Lunar Orbit from the Surface of the Moon, Spacecraft Apollo 11 and Lunar Module 'Eagle,' 21 July 1969 (Mission 16-24 July 1969." Signed boldly at the conclusion in blue felt tip, “Buzz Aldrin, Apollo XI LMP,” and countersigned by two NAA representatives. Embossed gold foil seal remains affixed to lower left. In very fine condition. Accompanied by two photos and a certificate of authenticity from a private signing with Aldrin held by Astronaut Central on March 21, 2017, as well as an impressive color certificate of authenticity prepared by David Frohman, which states: "This is to certify that the accompanying 'National Aeronautic Association' certificate is one of only two identical first-generation record documents that record the first manned launch off the surface of another celestial world. One copy was issued to Neil Armstrong, and the second copy is that which accompanies this certificate, and which likewise originates from the personal space collection of astronaut Buzz Aldrin." The National Aeronautic Association, working in conjunction with the Federation Aeronautique Internationale, is the world-governing body that officially certifies new aviation and space records, with this certificate officially recording mankind's historic first manned launch off the surface of the moon. A tremendous Apollo 11 rarity signifying the lunar module crew’s unique standing within the annals of aeronautical history.
