ALS signed “H. Hamlin,” one page both sides, 5 x 8, September 3, 1860. Letter to a gentleman, in part: "The truth is I meant to have been at your place before now…for a man of leisure, I have been the busiest one you can imagine. I have…been busy all the time in furnishing facts, dates and references to our editors in all posts of the state, and have found it impossible to leave home…After my return I can give you a definite answer whether I can then go to your place or not. Every thing looks well in the political field. New York will be the battlefield. The attempt will be made to fuse all elements against us. Our friends think they cannot do it, and if they do, that we will then beat them." In very good to fine condition, with creasing, a small tear, and a few light stains.
