Description

"Al, how would you like to fly this thing?"

Typed statement, one page, 8.5 x 11, NASA letterhead, no date. In full, “Pete leaned over to me and says, ‘you know, Al, how would you like to fly this thing?’ And I thought, well, that’d be fun because I hadn’t flown it up to that time, I’d just been doing my part of the job. And so as I started to put in my first thrust, I said, ‘Wait a minute! The people down in Houston at Mission Control aren’t going to like this.’ He said, ‘Don’t worry. We’re on the backside of the moon; they’ll never know it.’ And sure enough, he thought of everything. And so I flew it around awhile, and felt good to do it. It was just a good memory of a commander that thought about his lunar module pilot and wanted to get him to enjoy the flight.” Signed at the conclusion in black felt tip by Bean, who adds: "We sailed to the Ocean of Storms." In fine condition.
