Important British botanist and explorer (1817-1911) who was Charles Darwin's closest friend; he served as director of the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, for twenty years. ALS signed “Jos. D. Hooker,” one page both sides, 4.5 x 7, The Camp, Sunningdale letterhead, April 23, 1905. In part: "I have in vain taxed my memory for any evidence…& there is no plant so named in the gardens of Kew." He goes on to discuss potential varieties and hybrids of the referenced plant. In fine condition.
