Description

British politician (1623-1684) for whom Downing Street, the site of the Prime Minister’s residence, is named. Manuscript vellum DS in Latin, signed “G. Downing,” one page, 13.75 x 2.5, November 16, 1665. A receipt for Anton Sloman from Canterbury, also mentioning King George. Signed in the lower right corner by Downing. In very good condition, with a bisecting vertical fold, rough right edge and some scattered light toning and soiling.
