British Army officer (1750-1780) hanged as a spy during the American Revolution, due to an incident in which he attempted to assist Benedict Arnold's attempted surrender of the fort at West Point, New York, to the British. Engraved portrait of "Major John Andre, Late Adjutant General to the British Army in North America," 9 x 13.75, with a circular heading at the top, "Engraved for Raymond's History of England." In very good to fine condition, with foxing and light staining primarily to the borders, not affecting Andre's image whatsoever.
