Bronze medallion honoring Project Mercury, 3″ in diameter, featuring the images of astronauts Carpenter, Cooper, Glenn, Grissom, Schirra, Shepard, and Slayton on one side, with the other side reading, "Commemorating free man's first adventure beyond the atmosphere, 1958-1963," and depicting a rocket and the Mercury 7 symbol. The medallion is encased in plastic and is accompanied by the original box. In fine condition. A limited number of these medallions were produced and presented to congressional, government, and industry leaders who performed extraordinary roles in the success of the initial US man-in-space orbital program.
