In part (translated): “According to the plan evinced by the First Consul to know the state of affairs of Citizen Goutaut on behalf of whom General Lefebvre has requested a prompt letter concerning his activity, I am going to give an account on this subject. Citizen Goutaut, born February 24, 1772, was named second lieutenant on August 1, 1789, as a replacement in the first regiment of Hussars. He was invalided out of the service in 1791 in accordance with the law of August 29, 1790. Since then he has not been recalled to the service. We have no details on his military or political conduct. General Lefebvre answers for his courage and his accuracy in completing his duties. Citizen Goutaut is a nephew of Marshal Siran. It is especially in this regard and through a feeling of gratitude that General Lefebvre seems to recommend him the object of his request is to have him reentered in active service in the army of Hussars and his advancement to the rank of captain.” Signed in the left margin by Napoleon.
