Governor Hancock appoints an artilleryman in 1792

Partly-printed DS, one page, 14.5 x 12, October 1, 1792. As governor of Massachusetts, Hancock appoints James Walker as “Junior Second Lieutenant of a Company of Artillery in the First Brigade & Fourth Division of the Militia of this Commonwealth.” Signed on the left side by Hancock, and countersigned below by John Avery as secretary. White paper seal affixed to upper left remains intact. Matted and framed with an engraving of Hancock to an overall size of 29 x 18.75. In very good to fine condition, with scattered light soiling, and evidence of repairs to intersecting folds, and possible silking to the reverse of the document. Pre-certified PSA/DNA.
