Description

William Holden’s Primetime Emmy—the Best Lead Actor in 1973

Iconic original Primetime Emmy statuette awarded to William Holden in 1974 for his leading role as Bumper Morgan in The Blue Knight, an NBC cop drama focused on the Los Angeles Police Department. The award trophy measures approximately 15″ tall with a base diameter of 7.5″, weighs 6.1 pounds, and is neatly engraved on the base, “1973–1974 Television Academy Awards, Best Lead Actor In A Limited Series, William Holden, The Blue Knight, NBC.” In fine condition, with the sphere professionally reattached to the female figure’s hands.

The Blue Knight aired in four hour-long segments from November 13–16, 1973, and is considered one of the first TV miniseries ever produced; its success certainly proved influential as the form remains popular today. Headlining a star-studded cast that included Lee Remick, Joe Santos, and Sam Elliot—who all received rave reviews—Holden stole the show with his powerful performance. Holden had been one of the biggest box office draws during Hollywood’s ‘Golden Age’ and had received his sole Oscar twenty years earlier in 1954. As one of entertainment’s premiere awards—and Holden’s only Emmy—this is an exceedingly desirable piece.
