Description

Harry S. Truman

TLS as president, one page, 8 x 10.5, White House letterhead, January 5, 1950. Letter to Basil O’Connor, president of the National Foundation for Infantile Paralysis, concerning the organization’s annual March of Dimes fundraising campaign. In part: “The news that the National Foundation for Infantile Paralysis, in addition to its other expenditures, provided $31,000,000 for the care of patients during the worst polio epidemic in our country’s history last year, must make all Americans grateful that such a voluntary organization exists. Surely financial catastrophe would have accompanied personal tragedy in thousands of homes in 1949, had it not been for the National Foundation…I call on all citizens to support the 1950 March of Dimes Campaign. Just as no race, color or creed was spared in the vicious 1949 epidemic, so every race, color and creed will benefit when the National Foundation’s battle against polio is won. Every American benefits by joining the March of Dimes.” In fine condition. Pre-certified PSA/DNA.
