Description

Arrested in 1968, a Hendrix check-in slip from the Swedish police

DS in Swedish, signed “Jimi Hendrix,” one page, 5.75 x 8.25, January 15, 1968. Police document filled out in type with Hendrix’s personal information including his London address, full name, date of birth, occupation, and nationality. The form certifies that Hendrix reported to the police station on January 15 as required by a travel ban placed on him after having been arrested two weeks earlier. In fine condition, with expected document wear. Accompanied by a certificate of authenticity from Tracks, as well as an original press photo from the day of the arrest and four color reproduction photos of Hendrix from the trip to Sweden.

After landing in Gothenburg on January 3, 1968, to embark on a four-show tour of Sweden and Denmark, the members of the Jimi Hendrix Experience checked into the Hotel Opalen before going out to party late into the night. Their carousing continued after returning to the hotel until the staff received a complaint at 4 o’clock in the morning. Upon entering the room, the staff found Hendrix bleeding after having gone on a drunken rampage and punched through the hotel window. He was charged with criminal damage and taken to a hospital to receive stitches in his right hand. His court date was set for January 16—the day after this document—and in the meantime he was required to report to the police station every afternoon. Ultimately, Hendrix received just a small fine. An incredibly rare piece from a tumultuous few weeks of the legendary guitarist’s life. Pre-certified REAL.
