President Hayes appoints William Moffatt a “Second Lieutenant in the Second Regiment of Infantry in service of the United States.” Signed at the conclusion by Hayes, and countersigned by Secretary of War Alexander Ramsey. Double-suede-matted and framed with a portrait and a biographical plaque to an overall size of 34 x 28.5. In fine condition, with intersecting folds, some scattered light soiling, and Hayes’s signature a shade light, but completely legible. Accompanied by a full letter of authenticity from PSA/DNA.
