Collection of five items, each signed by a former captain of the USS Constitution: ink signature, “Edward Preble,” on an off-white slip clipped from a larger document; LS, signed “Jn. Rodgers,” April 20, 1818, regarding the delivery of the brig Exporter; LS, signed “Wm. Bainbridge,” one page, August 18, 1821, to Secretary of the Navy Smith Thompson, forwarding a sentence for John L. Luke which has been approved by the president of the United States; DS, signed “Isaac Hull,” one page, March 18, 1826, attesting the questioning and cross-examination of John Carlton in the case against master Commandant Carter represents the truth; and an ALS, signed “Charles Stewart,” one lightly-lined page, May 1, 1865, attesting to the receipt of a naval register. All five are double-suede matted and framed with a small color image of the ship to an overall size of 23.5 x 38. In overall fine condition, with folds to all letters and documents, a couple of tears to bottom of Bainbridge’s letter, as well as some light pencil remnants. Oversized. RR Auction COA.
