Partly-printed DS as president, one page, 13.25 x 16, February 13, 1846. President Polk appoints William Chapman “Captain in the Fifth Regiment of Infantry in service of the United States.” Signed at the conclusion by Polk and countersigned by Secretary of War William L. Marcy. In fine condition, with moderate intersecting storage folds, one through a single letter of signature, and a bit of light toning and wrinkling. The white wafer seal is bright and intact. Folded. Chapman served in the Mexican War and Civil War.
