Description

Working lyrics to ‘I Couldn’t Sleep’ from Joey’s posthumous solo album

Handwritten lyrics to the Joey Ramone song ‘I Couldn’t Sleep,’ on both sides of an off-white 12 x 9 sheet. An early version of the song, titled along the side “Goin Out of My Mind,” Ramone writes out in blue ballpoint, in part; “I couldn’t sleep at all last night/I was flippin I was floppin/Well I was reelin & a rockin-Ahaha/I couldn’t sleep at all last/Tossin & a turnin & reelin & a rockin rockin & a boppin…Couldn’t sleep at all-ll last/Put on my MTV the chirpin birds & me wooo.” Ramone adds a guitar part underneath and two more verses on the reverse. On the reverse he also adds a few more notes, presumably more of the song, “Public Domain, standard rock progression, piano, you can’t sit down at the hop & now the MTV is finally from N.Y.C.” Paper loss to one corner affecting a few words of text, tear to top edge, moderate creases, and scattered light toning and soiling, otherwise very good condition. Written sometime between 1977 and 2000, ‘I Couldn’t Sleep’ was featured on Ramone’s second, and final, solo album, Ya Know? Provenance: Joey Ramone Estate. Accompanied by a letter of authenticity from the Joey Ramone Estate. Pre-certified Roger Epperson/REAL and RR Auction COA.
