In part: “Whereas, The State of Texas’ universities and their libraries are invaluable sources of information that should be available to all Texans, and Whereas, Public education has long been a priority in Texas; the sizable portion of the state’s budget directed to this endeavor is not threatened by other pressing demands; and Whereas, Forty percent of all Texas residents live in rural communities…The Texas Math and Science Hotline, through the use of a toll-free number, encourages interaction between kindergarten through 12th-grade teachers and their students with the resources available in the state’s scientific, research, and higher education institutions…the 74th Legislature of the State of Texas hereby commend the Texas Match and Science Hotline for providing an efficient, cost-effective vehicle for facilitating university-school collaborations.” Countersigned by the state’s President of the Senate and Speaker of the House as well as two other state officials.
