Limited edition 8 x 10.25 lithograph of the middle-aged Einstein, numbered #76/150, signed in pencil, “Albert Einstein 1923.” Also signed in pencil by the artist, Hermann Struck. Under Einstein’s signature is a small printed Star of David with “H S” under the symbol. The lithograph is housed in its original lightweight presentation folder/mat, to an overall size of 10 x 14. In fine condition, with some scattered light toning and foxing to background, as well as to the presentation mat.
Struck (1876-1944) was a German Jewish artist well-known for his etchings. Born in Berlin, he studied at the Berlin Academy but was banned from teaching there because he was Jewish. He immigrated to Palestine in 1922, teaching at Bezalel Academy and helping establish the Tel Aviv Museum of Art. Einstein, who dated this etching two years after receiving the 1921 Nobel Prize for Physics, was one of Struck’s many distinguished subjects—and in this instance the focus of a small run of lithographs.
