Original CAM 2 registered air mail envelope, 9 x 4, bearing two horseshoe stamped cachets announcing, “Lindbergh Again Flies the Air Mail,” one from Chicago and one from St. Louis, signed by pilot “C. A. Lindbergh” as well as the five other pilots involved in the flight. Reverse bears two postmarks from Anglo, Missouri, as well. Uniform toning, a bit of creasing, and a few small edge tears, otherwise fine condition.
Postmarked on February 20, 1928, this specially designed cover accompanied Lindbergh on his return to the skies, if only for a while. The event received so much publicity—and mail—that Lindbergh had four other pilots accompany him on the journey. Lindbergh made certain that every piece of mail went up with him for 10 minutes, with the other mail carriers, all close flying buddies, taking the mail to its final destination.
According to Lindbergh expert and historian Barry Friedman, there are only two covers known to exist that have all six signatures. This is an incredibly rare opportunity for the advanced Lindbergh collector as well as other pilot collectors relative to the Lindbergh routes.
