Partly engraved DS as president, one page on vellum trimmed in size to 14.25 x 17, June 22, 1874. A commission for John B. Carpenter as chief engineer in the Navy. Countersigned by Wm. Reynolds as acting secretary of the Navy. The embossed seal remains intact at lower center. In good condition, with trimming as noted, intersecting folds, allover rippling, ink a shade or two light but fully legible, and faint offsetting slightly touching signature.
