GOOD MEASURES: ROSSINI pens a quotation from one of his works

Important Italian composer (1792–1868) who became one of the seminal figures in the history of opera with such repertoire staples as the Barber of Seville and William Tell. AMQS on an 8.25 x 5 sheet, eight measures for piano from an unidentified work, marked “Mod[era]to,” signed and inscribed, “Bologna, 15 Luglio [June] 1838, A Carolina, Rossini.” Matted with a period portrait engraving to an overall size of 19 x 11. In very good condition overall, with sheet lightly affixed to backing, allover toning, two vertical folds, expert repairs to tears and small losses in left margin (not affecting any writing), and reverse archivally tissue-reinforced.
