Description

Cody pines for home: “This will be my last tour last season in Europe as I bring everything back to America this fall.”

American frontiersman and entertainer (1846–1917). By the age of 15 Cody had already been a horse wrangler, Pony Express rider, and unsuccessful prospector. He became a scout for the Union army and after the war took a job for a company that supplied meat for railroad construction crews, killing 4,280 buffalo during 1867–68. Dubbed “Buffalo Bill” by writer Ned Buntline, Cody organized his famous Wild West Show in 1883 and met with great success during national and worldwide tours in the following decades. ALS signed “W. F. Cody,” one page, 8.5 x 11, Buffalo Bill’s Wild West letterhead, March 7, 1906. Letter to an associate, written on his last tour of Europe. In full: “Was glad to hear from you. And that you are now pleased with the Yellow Hand painting. If you come to Munich in May you will see me. I will be there in June. I have started off nicely this season. This will be my last tour last season in Europe as I bring everything back to America this fall. With my kindest wishes for your success. I am, Yours truly.” Intersecting mailing folds lightly passing through first initial, small chip to top edge, short splits along fold edges, and some scattered light creasing and toning, otherwise fine condition. Auction LOA John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and R&R COA.
