Description

LS, in French, one page, 7.25 x 9, March 8, 1807, signed with a rare, nearly complete signature, “Napoln.” Napoleon writes to Prince Eugene Napoleon, his adopted stepson: “My son, I wrote to the King of Naples to tell him to send the 6th Regiment of cavalry to Italy. As this regiment should be brought up to 1000 men, it would be difficult to keep it in Naples.” Napoleon then discusses troops sent to Milan. In March 1807, the tides of war were running strongly in favor of Napoleon. Five months earlier, he conquered Prussia at the Battle of Jena-Auerstadt, and in early February, he defeated the Russians at Eylau. In fine condition, with a spot of foxing and a partially removed notation in the top left corner. A great letter illustrating the confidence of Napoleon at the height of his power when his dream of a complete European empire seemed nearest to realization. Auction LOA John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and R&R COA.
