Description

Famed Union General (1820–1891) best known for his devastating campaigns in the deep South, including the “March to the Sea,” that led to the capture of Atlanta and Savannah and proved to be one of the turning points of the Civil War. ALS signed “W. T. Sherman,” one page, lightly-lined, 5.5 x 8.25, personal letterhead, January 22, 1891. Letter to Mrs Field, accepting an invitation. In full: “Your kind note of yesterday is just reward, and though I usually reserve (?), Sunday as a day of Rest and Recreation in the country, I will come to you next Sunday the 25th at seven o’clock pm to meet Mr. & Mrs. Stanley.” In fine condition, with light overall toning to text and signature from previous display.
