The ADAMSES write to a nephew in the military: “A most ardent desire to see you released from the tiresome bondage of your present service”

Franking signature, “J. Q. Adams,” on a 5.5 x 3 (panel size) postal cover addressed in the hand of his wife, Louisa Catherine Adams, to Lieut. R. C. Buchanan, 4th Regt., U.S. Inft., in Louisiana. The reverse of the sheet (8 x 9.75 overall) bears an undated ALS from Mrs. Adams, signed “L. C. A.” In part: “Mary and I send all wishes my dear Robert and a most ardent desire to see you released from the tiresome bondage of your present service. Give our love to Thomas and tell we expect his Mother and Sister Angier to pay us a visit. All are well here and as impatient to [see] you both as your Aunt….” The address panel bears Washington, May 14,” “New Orleans, June 23,” and “FREE” postmarks. In good condition, with light staining, show-through, and small chips and tears to address panel (not affecting the signature) and tears and complete separations affecting text of letter but not signature.
