For one glorious decade, 1945-55, Agganis was the finest athlete in New England. He is No. 27 on the Boston Globes list of the top 100 New England sports figures of the century. When he died in June 1955 of a pulmonary embolism, New England was staggered. He was 26. Rare ALS, on a 5.5 x 3.25 government postcard, no date (but postmarked June 2, 1954. Letter to a fan requesting a signed photo. In full, “I will be more than glad to send you an autograph picture of myself just as soon as I can have some made. I will keep your name on the list. Thanks for writing.” Reverse is addressed in Agganis’s hand. Accompanied by a letter of authenticity from PSA/DNA. In fine condition, with a couple light postmarks to top of text, slight surface loss to address side, and a PSA/DNA authentication label affixed to reverse.
