Revolutionary War general, first Secretary of War, and founder of the military school that became West Point (1750–1806). Franking signature, “Knox,” on a 6.5 x 3.5 [panel size] postal cover addressed in another hand to “His Excellency Edward Telfiar, Governor of the State of Georgia. An additional notation at the bottom edge reads “Via Charleston, ship Delaware, Indian Hostilities.” One of the flaps bears the date March 9, 1793. In fair to good condition, with heavy vertical creases touching several words of address (soiling and separations) and scattered soiling and toning. The signature itself is large, clear, and unaffected by any faults. R&R COA.
