Pilot Wiley Post (1898–1935), accompanied by navigator Harold Gatty (1903–1957), set the speed record for around-the-world flight during a trip completed on July 1, 1931. Post later became the first pilot to circle the globe solo. He died, along with humorist Will Rogers, when a plane he was piloting crashed during takeoff from a lagoon near Point Barrow, Alaska. Commemorative postal cover honoring the round-the-world flight of the Winnie Mae, bearing several international postmarks, 6.5 x 3.5, signed in ink at upper left “Wiley Post” and “Harold Gatty.” A touch of mild handling wear, otherwise fine condition.
