Less than a week after accepting the presidential nomination, Lincoln appoints a surgeon

DS as president, one page, 15.75 x 19.5, July 1, 1864. President Lincoln appoints Edward J. Whitney “Surgeon of Volunteers in the service of the United States.” Signed at the conclusion in black ink, “Abraham Lincoln,” and countersigned by Secretary of War Edwin Stanton. Horizontal storage folds, one passing through Lincoln’s signature, Lincoln’s signature and handwritten portions of document a couple shades light, and light edge toning, otherwise fine condition.
