Widely esteemed Zionist leader (1886–1973) who served as first Prime Minister of Israel. ALS in Hebrew, one lightly lined page, 4.75 x 8.25, March 10, 1966. Ben-Gurion writes to Ben Asher. In part (translated): “I read your letter addressed to the President. Out of sentimentality and esteem toward you, I must confess that I had to overcome emotional difficulty before reading the letter you have sent to Levi Eshkol, and currently I won’t provide details. I am in complete agreement with you—however, I’m not sure that one of those to whom your letter was sent won’t endanger the project which you so justifiably … praise.” Though Ben-Gurion had hand-picked Eshkol to succeed him as Prime Minister in 1963, disagreement with a number of Eshkol’s military and security policies led Ben-Gurion to publicly denounce Eshkol until the latter’s death in office in 1969. Faint horizonal fold touching signature, otherwise fine condition. LOA John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and R&R COA.
