Playing headhunter during the Depression: Hoover helps the Assistant Secretary of the Navy find a job

TLS as president, one page, 7 x 9, White House letterhead, February 3, 1933. During the worst year of the Great Depression, Hoover helps the Assistant Secretary of the Navy, Ernest Lee Jahncke find a job. Letter to Walter C. Teagle, Standard Oil Company, inquiring as to any positions. In part, “I do not know that there is any opening in your business in these strenuous times, but I know that Secretary Jahncke would like to be associated with you in some appropriate capacity.” In very good condition, with overall toning, partially erased docket stamps and mounting remnants on reverse.
