Written from Washington, Senator Houston responds to a hopeful portrait artist "at Mrs. Hills," in full: "Yours of the 8th inst. writing me to sit for my portrait is received. I should be happy to gratify you in the particular (if gratification it would be), but my time is so much occupied and will so continue till the close of the present session of Congress that it will be out of my power to comply with your request." Matted and framed to an overall size of 14 x 16. In fine condition, with scattered light creasing.
