Letter to politician and poet Lucy Masterman on the death of her husband, the Liberal politician Charles Masterman. In part: "I am so grieved & sorry to hear of the death of Masterman. I left London just before it happened…I thought it was only a temporary illness & since I was very pressed by all sorts of affairs I did not have time to come & see him. I'm sorry now. I would have liked very greatly to have seen him once more for to me he was always the sturdiest of friends & the best of companions…I felt sure that he was bound to return to office when the smash of the present government arrives, and to play a bigger part than ever in public affairs. My sincerest condolences." In very good to fine condition, with light overall creasing, and a short tear to the bottom edge.
