Hardcovers with dust jacket, 6 x 8.5, 596 and 594 pages. Signed and inscribed on the half-title page of the first volume in fountain pen, "Good luck to Elmer Hale, Jr., from Harry S. Truman, Independence, Nov. 4, 1955," and on the dedication page of the second volume, "To Elmer Hale, Jr., From Harry S. Truman, 3-10-56." Autographic condition: fine. Book condition: VG/VG, with sunning to jacket spines and edgewear to jackets. Elmer 'Bud' Hale, Jr. was a veteran of World War II who fought in the Battle of the Bulge, and received the Bronze Star and the French Croix D'Guerre for his role in liberating France. He went on to serve as chairman of the National Bank of McAlester.
