God is so good and so merciful. He has touched your life and mine. Maybe, Ron, a day will come that you and I can get together and have fellowship. I would love to hear of how God has used you as you have made yourself available to Him. If not, well, we have eternity. May His joy and peace be the filling of fullness for you, brother. After injuries forced his retirement from the NBA in the fall of 1980, Maravich began a two-year personal quest to find the meaning of life. He tried yoga and Hinduism, read up on Trappist teachings and ufology, and explored vegetarianism and macrobiotics before embracing evangelical Christianity in 1982. On January 5, 1988, roughly one month after writing this letter, Maravich collapsed and died of heart failure at the age of 40 while playing in a pickup game in the gym at the First Church of the Nazarene in Pasadena, California. Maravich's last words, reportedly spoken less than a minute before he died, were ‘I feel great.’ A remarkable letter from a true legend of the hardwood, written not long before his tragic passing.
